There will be blanket coverage of the G1 Phone across the AOL Ad network over a two day period next week. T-Mobile is looking to promote the unique features of the phone and raise awareness ahead of the holiday shopping season.

If people were wondering why coverage of the G1 Phone hasn’t seemed to be that great, then this could be your answer. The two companies were just waiting for the right moment, and next week seems to be it.

AOL’s Platform A reaches 90% of the online audience in the US so this is really targeting as many potential customers as possible.

This campaign is estimated to cost around $1.5 million which isn’t huge for a large scale advertising campaign so maybe it is a test to see what the online conversion rate for the advertising is and then they will start a larger scale online and offline campaign.

After a lot of anticipation Google and T-Mobile will announce the first Google Android handset on September 23rd in New York. The device is made by handset manufacturer HTC and is a partnership between Google and T-Mobile.

It is thought that the device labelled the Dream will be on sale in the UK by November, possibly a little bit later than the release in the US which is thought to be October.

Android mobile’s will compete against the iPhone which has been hugely successful. It’s thought that in the US the price of the new Android Dream phone will be $199 which sets it in direct competition with the iPhone.

It will be extremely hard for Google Android devices to beat Apple’s iPhone in terms of sales. I think Google are looking at this in the longer term. Remember that Android is just a platform and there will be many phones coming out in the future that will use the operating system.

The iPhone is based around a mobile device, a solid product and one that is very successful but Android will have many chances to be successful with lots of attempts with different handsets. The release on September 23rd is just the beginning.

The UK is a strong mobile market, internet usage with mobile devices is high. The UK has the largest percentage of mobile users accessing search which means it is a big market for Google and Android. Google does search better than anyone else and they want Android to make it easier to search by mobile. With their new Chrome browser which will undoubtedly be integrated into Android Google aims to continue it’s domination by moving into the mobile internet.

The people at Google Android are asking for help from mobile security experts in order to sort out any potential security issues they have with the platform. They say they have done a lot of work so far in terms of fixing bugs but with so many devices and applications due to be used with the platform they need the help of other people to spot things they have missed.

Android released the 0.9 version of their Software Development Kit earlier this week. This is the latest version and is as close as developers are going to get right now to the finished article, the 1.0 version.

We are in the final straight in terms of the release of Android with everything coming together and talk of T-Mobile being the first carrier, as well HTC the first handset manufacturer.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States has approved so the called Android Dream Phone made by HTC and that looks set to be the first Android phone on the market in the US.

If you are getting impatient waiting for the Android release you probably won’t be waiting too much longer. You could sign up for an iPhone contract now but you might be disappointed when Android is released because you won’t be able to change to it, unless you want two phones, and their isn’t a law against that. I will though reserve judgement on which is better when I finally have an Android phone in my hand.

We are still on course to get our hands on Android in the 4th Quarter of this year. There have been rumours that it will be delayed until 2009 but to be completely honest there seems to be a fair bit of silence, so we can just assume that it is still on course for the end of this year.

One thing that there seems to be no silence about is the fact that developers aren’t getting enough support from Google. It seems that Google might need to keep touch with all those developers who need help with coding issues.

It’s one thing making a platform open source but then you need to have the support to keep that platform going. Google has the resources to offer the support, it’s not like they are a struggling startup but if they are not careful, another open source platform will become the market leader because it will be easier to develop for.

The wait looks to be almost over for those waiting for the new Android phones. We have been told it will be in the second half of 2008 that the new platform will be released.

Rumours say it could be as early as July, whilst the official line is that it won’t be until later on in the year. Whatever the story, Android now has to compete with the iPhone 3G which is going to be a big hit.

Here in the UK the phone will be as low as £100 which is an incredible price. Android looks like it is going to be something special but if it doesn’t get to the market quick enough people are going to be fed up waiting and just opt for the new iPhone.

Now is a crucial time in the mobile market, the decisions that are being made now may effect how well a phone or platform does in the future.
